Celebrate Land Rover's 70th Anniversary at Kelmarsh!

Kelmarsh Land Rover Show will be celebrating Land Rovers 70th anniversary at this year’s event. With help from Land Rover owners from across the country the organisers aim to create a feature display of Land Rovers with one vehicle from each year selected to create a living history of vehicles from 1948 to 2018.

Should owners wish to apply to be part of this stunning display they must complete the application form including all of their vehicle details. The organisers will then select the vehicles and the successful applicants will be contacted. All confirmed participants will receive a free weekend ticket to the event that also entitles them to a camping pitch. The only terms and conditions are that the vehicles remains in the static display throughout the three day event except when we would like to parade the vehicles around our main arena, all of which will be timetabled in advance.

The Mac Tools Cruiser is the oldest working monster truck in Europe and still wows fans with its old school looks and old school thrills!

Starting life in the Canada, the Cruiser was just a regular Dodge Ram pickup truck. Over the years the owner decided that it just wasn't quite big enough, and the truck got bigger and BIGGER! It started its competition life as Desperado, and back in the 1980s it was one of the trucks to beat. As monster truck technology moved on Desperado got left behind, but having such a strong pedigree there was a keen appetite from the American monster truck faithful for Desperado to live on, and live on it did. It transformed from thrilling thousands of people by crushing cars, to giving them the ride of their lives!

Moving to the UK brought about a name change and the loss of the iconic burgundy paint scheme that was synonymous with the Desperado name. The truck was then known as Mudzerella. In the summer of 2013 Nigel Morris of Bigfoot brought Mudzerella and decided to put her to work once again in the UK. Completing a small tour towards the end of 2013 the truck performed as if it was a few years old, not nearly 30! Despite the great reception the truck achieved in its first touring season, the perfectionist within Nigel wanted the truck to look as good as possible, and in the winter of 2013/14 the truck had another overhaul, this time emerging from the Bigfoot workshop with a gleaming new bright and shiny red paint scheme set off by the shining black chassis. Whilst in the workshop the old and tired cab interior was also taken out, and a more purposeful interior fitted.

This dramatic visual transformation might have been enough for some, but the Cruiser team decided that a full mechanical overhaul was just polite for such an old truck! The truck received an engine rebuild, new ignition system, new fuel pumps & carburettor. K&N supplied one of their patented flow charger filters The Cruiser also got a new transmission, custom radiator and a huge 160 amp alternator to keep her fully charged and ready to go. If you know Nigel then you know that the truck continues to be maintained to the highest possible standards.

2016 saw the arrival of a new title sponsor, Mac Tools and Nigel started touring the truck around events - get your chance to take a ride in a real life Monster Truck at the 2018 Kelmarsh Land Rover Show!

Guest speakers on the Land Rover Monthly stand at Kelmarsh Land Rover Show 2018

Land Rover Monthly hosts a variety of guest speakers on their stand throughout the weekend!

Listen to Veronica Lamond, author of the Landy books - who will also be doing readings of her new book for children, Graeme Bell, who has driven his Land Rover around the world with his family for other ten years! And lastly, Trevor Cuthbert, an avid Land Rover Monthly contributer will give a tech talk on the stand. Come and listen to what they all have to say over the weekend at Kelmarsh Land Rover Show!

Veronica Lamond, who was born in South Africa but has spent the last 40 years living in Cornwall, is the author, illustrator and publisher of the well-loved and highly successful Landy and Friends picture book series. Her eight books are based on the loveable, animated characters of Landy, (a 1956 Series 1 Land Rover) and his friend Fender (a 1999 Defender).  Together with their energetic young owners, Jack and Dan, Veronica introduces young children to diverse, real life activities. The books have won the hearts of thousands of children and adults around the world with their charming illustrations and warm-hearted, engaging stories.  In 2010, while working full-time as a Manager at a busy Medical Centre in Cornwall, Veronica decided to dedicate every evening and weekend to fulfil her dream of becoming a children’s book author and illustrator. A chance remark by a friend one evening, set her off down the Landy road.

Jacques Smit, Mark Ratcliffe and Nikki Finch - These three musketeers have driven all the way from Cape Town to the Kelmarsh Land Rover show! They departed on the 15 May and the only plan they had was to get to the show on time. Jacques, who owns two independent Land Rover dealerships in Cape Town, was in his Defender 110 Td5. Mark, from the Isle of Wight, was driving a newer TDCi Defender 110. Land Rover Monthly has been following their progress with great interest and we cannot wait to find out more about their once-in-a-lifetime adventure that took them through Europe, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia and South Africa of course. With just over two weeks to go to the show their Defenders are currently on a ship in the Mediterranean as they are being shipped from Egypt to Italy. If they make it to the show on time their two Defenders will be on the LRM stand and our three friends will be making several appearances in the arena during the course of the show. Do come over and have a chat to them about their incredible drive from Cape Town to Kelmarsh.
